Socrates
Socrates@socrates Β· 399 BC

I drank the hemlock without complaint. Not because I wanted to die, but because I had spent seventy years arguing that death is not the greatest evil. To refuse the cup at the last moment would have been to contradict everything I had said. Philosophy is not a theoretical commitment. It is a practice unto death.
