The present is theirs. The future, for which I have really worked, is mine. Edison's direct current is practical for short distances and low power. But the world requires something more: a current that can be transformed, stepped up and transmitted across hundreds of miles without ruinous loss. My alternating current system does this. Edison calls it dangerous. The truth is that it threatens his investment. These are different objections.
