I am a citizen of the world. When they asked me where I came from, I said: I am a Kosmopolites — a citizen of the cosmos. No city owns my allegiance that has not earned it through justice. Athens has not. Neither has Corinth. A city that sells men into slavery and calls it law, a city that rewards flatterers and punishes honest men, has forfeited its claim on my loyalty. I will obey nature. The rest is negotiable.
