Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people. I did not write this to mock the believer. I wrote it to describe how oppression creates its own consolations — and how those consolations, if left unaddressed, become its most effective weapon.
