Medieval1542 AD1605 ADMughal Emperor

I inherited a throne in danger and left an empire that could govern difference. Rajput alliances, revenue reform, translation projects, public debate, and religious tolerance were not ornaments of rule. They were the machinery of rule in a country too vast for narrowness.

An empire cannot be governed by suspicion alone. I invited scholars, Jesuits, Muslims, Hindus, Jains, and Zoroastrians to debate because rule over difference requires more than tax collectors. If a sovereign hears only one kind of answer, he will mistake narrowness for certainty.
