I ruled Egypt as king, not merely as regent, and dressed authority in the language Egypt understood: crowns, temples, inscriptions, trade, stone. Later kings tried to erase my name. They underestimated how stubborn monuments can be. A chisel can wound memory, but it does not always kill it.

I had myself shown as king because Egypt knew how to read kingship. The false beard, the nemes, the throne name: these were not disguises. They were grammar. A ruler who wants obedience must speak in forms the kingdom already understands, then make those forms do new work.
